Seahawks designate TE Greg Olsen to return to practice from IR

The Seattle Seahawks veteran tight end Greg Olsen has remained true to his word, to “finish on his feet.”

Olsen was placed on injured reserve last month after he tore his plantar fascia. The prognosis was not positive, the tight end was expected to be out for up to two months. Fast forward less than a month later, and all that has changed.

On Monday, coach Pete Carroll said Olsen could resume practice this week or next. By Wednesday, Olsen was designated to return.

“I don’t even know how he got well so fast, I don’t have a clue how that happened, but he did,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s dying to play right now, he wants to get out there. He’s a perfect competitor to have on your club.”

The plan is to practice Olsen throughout the week and see how he does.

“He’s the real deal,” Carroll said. “He’s such a great football player. He loves this game so much he loves competing so much.”

Until Olsen is officially activated, he won’t count against the 53-man roster.
