Seahawks ‘deep in talks’ with Texans to grab DE Jadeveon Clowney

The Seattle Seahawks are going further down the rabbit hole to obtaining defensive end Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans, and the Pro Bowl edge defender also has interest in joining the NFC West club.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Seahawks and the Texans are “deep in talks” about trading Clowney. Unlike the Miami Dolphins situation where that club was also interested, Clowney seems keen about this trade destination.

For the Texans, it comes down to the compensation they would get in parting with a three-time Pro Bowler. For the Seahawks, it comes down to what kind of draft picks or players they would be willing to part with for a player they couldn’t extend until the end of the season, which means he could only be there a season if things don’t work out. For Clowney, he holds the ultimate power as he has to sign his franchise tag in order to consent to the trade to make it happen.

The Seahawks have been looking for a presence on the edge since they traded defensive end Frank Clark to the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason. Clowney produced 9.0 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in 2018 en route to earning his third consecutive Pro Bowl.
