The Seattle Seahawks will see another change to the coaching staff ahead of the 2020 NFL season. The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta reported that longtime assistant offensive line coach Pat Ruel is retiring from the team at 69 years of age.
Ruel held his position on the Seahawks staff for 10 years and has a long history of working closely with head coach Pete Carroll, dating back to his days at USC. He joined the Trojans after working as the New York Giants’ offensive line coach largely thanks to Carroll. Ruel stated around the time of his hiring that the idea of working with Carroll was quite enticing to him.
“Pete’s like a beautiful woman,” Ruel said. “The closer you get, you better look out. He is very charismatic. He can smile and make you feel like a million dollars.”
Ruel joined Carroll in Seattle shortly after the latter became the Seahawks’ head coach and spent the next decade together and won Super Bowl XLVIII in the process.
Ruel sees the end of his journey with the Seahawks and who will replace him is up to speculation at this point.
