Seaham Food Festival to make debut with menu of parmo Scotch eggs and gin and tonic cheesecake

Those who do like to be beside the seaside will find even more reason to head to the County Durham coast when the first Seaham Food Festival makes its debut this summer.

Among the food traders already announced for its June 8-9 weekend programme are North East Scotch eggs specialist The Clucking Pig company and a firm billed as the Cheesecake Queen.

The latter, Simply Cheesecake, will be introducing a range of flavours at the debut event  including gin and tonic and the equally-tempting strawberry and prosecco alongside the likes of millionaire shortbread and Eton mess.

And catering for those with a savoury tooth, The Clucking Pig will be showcasing its gourmet scotch eggs.

Options will include a special Parmo scotch egg; a rare breed pork one with red onion marmalade and even vegetarian haggis.

The festival, being launched by Durham County Council, will be held on The Green on Seaham sea front from 10am until 5pm on the Saturday and 4pm on the Sunday.

Organisers are promising a packed programme of street food; producers from the North East; Cumbria and Yorkshire; trade stalls; demonstrations; cocktail-making classes; live music and children's entertainment plus some celebrity TV chef guests who have yet to be revealed.
