Seagull rescued after being trapped in chimney for 'three or four days'

A seagull found itself at the centre of a rescue operation after being trapped in a chimney for 'three or four days'.

A Bristol Registry Office employee heard an unusual noise after venturing into the lower area of the building.

Pest controllers were promptly called to the building in the city centre and technician Wayne Gurney soon realised there was a bird stuck where the old prison cells used to be.

He then set about rescuing the distressed seagull, at one point fitting his hand into a very small hole to reach the bird.

After the seagull was removed from the chimney and checked over for injuries, Wayne took it outside to be released while being pecked.

The technician from Good Riddance Pest Control said: “It was quite an experience to rescue such a large bird. I think it could have been there for at least three or four days.

"Pest control is not just about getting rid of pests, we like to look after wildlife whenever we can.”

Cleankill Pest Control managing director Paul Bates said: “We are very proud of Wayne and his actions.

"To rescue and deal with such a large bird close up would have been very challenging. It’s a great example of our staff dealing with a situation professionally and with compassion.”
