Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil left out of Arsenal friendly after carjacking attempt

Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil have been left out of Arsenal's pre-season friendly with Lyon following their terrifying knife attack this week.

Unai Emery spoke to both players and decided it would be best to keep them away from the Emirates.

Kolasinac and Ozil, along with the German's wife were the targets of an attempted carjack on Thursday.

The footballers were travelling in Ozil’s Mercedes SUV in North London when a pair of gang members targeted it and gave chase.

Ozil ditched the car in the middle of the road and attempting to find help in a local restaurant as Kolasinac confronted the pursuers.

Footage showed the Bosnian Kolasinac fending off the pair, who had crash helmets on, and chasing them away. Police confirmed neither player suffered injuries.

An Arsenal spokesman told Mirror Football at the time: "We have been in contact with both players and they are fine."

A police statement said: "We were called to Platts Lane, NW3, shortly before 5pm to reports of an attempted robbery.

"It was reported that suspects on motorbikes had attempted to rob a man.

"The driver, along with his passenger, managed to get away unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by officers. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue."

The incident is understood to have shaken up Ozil who had just returned from the club’s US pre-season trip and had been in training.

But Kolasinac took to social media on Friday to confirm the pair were well.

He wrote: “Think we’re fine.”

Unai Emery has named an otherwise strong XI for the Emirates Cup, although has decided against starting new loan signing Dani Ceballos.

Arsenal: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Sokratis, Monreal, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Willock, Aubameyang, Lacazette
