Seacroft school to let kids have late start on Monday after England take on Italy in EURO 2020 final

A primary school in Leeds is letting children have a late start on Monday morning after England take on Italy in the final of the Euro 2020 tournament.

Chris Dyson, the headteacher at Parklands Primary School, in Seacroft, Leeds, gave the children the green light to have a lie in on Monday morning if they’d been up late watching the England football team in the big game.

In a statement shared on social media he said that children had the option of coming in at 10.30am the morning after the match.

He said: “Monday...Children [at Parklands Leeds] can arrive at 103.0am as we celebrate the first major #EURO2020 final ever.

“If child care issues it is business as normal.

“The 10.30am option is in case the children are tired staying up until potentially 11.15pm.

“Rather a late start than an absence.”

The announcement that children had the option of a late start was met with praise from many social media users - most of which, thought it was a “brilliant” idea.

One person wrote: “Fantastic this Chris!! This is amazing.”

“What a great idea. Hope everyone at Parklands is safe and well,” a second person said.

Another person wrote: “Lovely idea. Even my younger two want to stay up and watch it now that we are in the final.

“And why not, it's history in the making.

“[To be fair] if we win I think everyone will just want to be in school to celebrate and soak up the atmosphere with their friends.”

One person, who presumably works at a school, added: “This is a really thoughtful, practical and community-minded approach Chris, thank you for sharing it.

“I think I might just borrow it for my school too!”
