Sea Shanty singer Nathan Evans brands Twitter 'toxic' after being trolled for wearing England top

Nathan Evans has hit back at trolls who shared photos of him online wearing an England top, just days after he sang Flower of Scotland at Hampden Park.

Scotland played their first Euro 2020 game against the Czech Republic on Monday, with Nathan following in the footsteps of Amy Macdonald and Nina Nesbitt by singing the national anthem.

But after a video of the performance was posted online by the Scotland National Team official Twitter account, social media users shared a picture of the 26-year-old wearing a England shirt.

The Sea Shanty singer then posted to say the platform was 'toxic'.

The picture circulated on Twitter (Twitter UGC)

Replying to the video, one person shared an unearthed picture of him wearing an England top and said: "This you?"

And Nathan replied: "Thats me, look at me man, still gorgeous xox."

And when many jumped on to criticise him, Nathan, who is originally from Airdrie, defended himself.

He said: "I also have a Germany top n a Portugal top if you want my picture in them ones also?"

And he added: "“we” have aye, i’m still scottish, that tshirt in the picture disny change that…"

Later on, Nathan then tweeted: "Twitter is eaaaasily the most toxic social platform, its not even close."

The former postman shot to fame last year after going viral on TikTok and released his UK number one single with 'Wellerman'.

And following his success, Nathan recently revealed that he will be bringing out a book 'The Book of Sea Shanties', due to be published on October 14.

The book will feature more than 35 of the best sea shanties selected by Nathan, 26, accompanied by an explanation of the meaning behind each and how they have shaped and inspired him.
