Sea of Saltires cover George Square in Glasgow as Yes voters gather for independence demo

Hundreds of Yes supporters gathered in George Square in Glasgow on Saturday for a pro-independence rally.

The 'Final Countdown' event was organised by the Hope Over Fear campaign group.

Activists were bathed in sunshine as speakers, including Tommy Sheridan , pledged to "send a message to Westminster".

Indy campaigners lapped up the atmosphere as a number of live bands played on a stage constructed on the West Side of the square.

It is the fifth time the annual event has been held and this year marks the anniversary of the independence referendum in 2014 which saw the Yes campaign defeated 55% to 45%.

At one point the jovial crowd belted out a rousing rendition of Runrig's Loch Lomond .

Some weird and wonderful outfits were on display as chants of "Boris, Boris, Boris - out, out, out" rang out across the square.

The Yes gathering marked the launch of a “Final Countdown” to IndyRef2, as demonstrators led calls for a second poll in the near future.

A number of SNP councillors were in attendance, including Inverclyde's Chris McEleny, Renfrewshire’s Audrey Doig and Kenny Mclaren and Stirling’s Scott Farmer.

And at around 1.30pm the Yes bikers thundered past George Square to cheers from the crowd.
