Sea Girls frontman Henry Camamile: 'I was a bartender once. Sorry if I ever served you'

Sea Girls are singalong standard-bearers for a new generation. The four-piece landed a spot on the BBC’s Sound of 2019 shortlist for their anthemic, full-throttle, ridiculously infectious indie pop (see: Violet, a song Annie Mac named the “Hottest Record in the World”). Here’s singer and king of catchy, Henry Camamile.

What would you save if your house was falling into a sinkhole?

Any of my family who might be inside.

A day you’d like to relive?

My 11th birthday was pretty wild. My mum went to town on the cake, loads of icing, and so all my friends went nuts.

Guiltiest pleasure?

Coke Zero or the TV series Columbo — but I don’t feel guilty about it.

Spookiest thing that’s happened to you?

Over a four-hour period I thought there was a demon in my bedroom. It turned out to be sleep paralysis.

What’s the worst job you’ve done?

I’ve done so many jobs incredibly badly. The last one was as a bartender. I’m sorry if I ever served you.

Best hangover cure?

Game of Thrones.

Wildest thing that happened on stage?

Some dude stage-invades every time we play Too Much Fun in Birmingham. He’s become a bit of a legend among us.

Your earliest memory?

Writing a song called Rock ’n’ Roll Baby at the age of three.

Strangest thing a fan has sent you?

We tried out a new song at one of our early gigs and someone finished the lyrics and made fan art too. Our fans are amazing.

Your biggest regret?

Not singing at my favourite teacher’s funeral.

Who is your hero?

My sister.

Given a spellbook, what would you cast?

Russel Brand’s Utopia.
