The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) stressed the importance of four tracks in the context of the strategic economic and social framework for development in Yemen. This includes raising the efficiency of health institutions and the link between the humanitarian and development track and sustainable peace.
SDRPY’s comments were relayed by its delegation attending the meeting of international donors that support reconstruction and development in Yemen. The meeting was held virtually on Friday and was headed by Lise Grande, the UN humanitarian co-ordinator for Yemen, and the World Bank Group’s manager for Yemen Raja Kattan.
The meeting was attended by a host of ambassadors of countries who support Yemen’s reconstruction process.
Grande thanked Saudi Arabia for its swift and direct support to countering the coronavirus pandemic in Yemen, saying that if it weren’t for Saudi Arabia’s direct support, the UN and its agencies working in Yemen wouldn’t have been able to implement quick measures for public health.
The meeting discussed the outcomes of the consultations carried out by the UN on the economic and social impacts of the pandemic in Yemen and the goals and pillars of the strategic economic and social framework in the next stage.
SDRPY’s team partaking in the meeting confirmed that there are four important tracks that should be undertaken within the economic and social strategy for Yemen.
These four tracks are building the capacities of Yemeni health institutions so that they could deal with the current pandemic and future diseases, creating sustainable job opportunities, incorporating the private sector with economic recovery and linking the humanitarian track to development and sustainable peace.
