Scunthorpe United suffer injury blow to key attacking player ahead of Bolton Wanderers

Scunthorpe United have been dealt an injury blow ahead of taking on Bolton Wanderers as Kevin van Veen is due to miss the clash with a hamstring problem.

The Trotters head to Glanford Park tomorrow evening for a midweek League Two clash.

Both sides go into the encounter in good recent form, with Ian Evatt's side having won their last three matches in all competitions, including back-to-back victories in the league against Salford City and Stevenage.

The Iron themselves are unbeaten in their last three League Two matches.

And speaking to the club website ahead of tomorrow's 7pm kick-off, Scunthorpe boss Neil Cox has revealed that van Veen and Jordan Clarke will not play a part tomorrow.

He said: "Kev is going to miss out as he has a tender hamstring, but it's nowhere near as bad as we thought. It's more nervy.

"Jordan is not available this week and we'll have to be careful with him. Hopefully he can have a full week of training (with the gap we have at the weekend) and get back into it.

"We have a few knocks and bruises that we have to be careful with and have a look at ahead of Tuesday night."

Van Veen is one of the Iron's main attacking threats and has scored twice for Scunthorpe this season, making him currently the club's joint top scorer this campaign along with Ryan Loft.

Cox played for Wanderers between 1997 and 1999 and is looking forward to taking on his old side, of which he has fond memories.

And he believes that Bolton will be up challenging at the top end of the League Two table by the end of the season.

"I have great memories of my time there. Two-and-a-half great years when they first moved to the Reebok Stadium. Behind the scenes we were really well looked after, and I've stayed in touch with several people. Hopefully, after Tuesday night, they can pick up points and start to climb the table," Cox said.

"It's going to be a good challenge for us as (their manager) Ian Evatt has put a great squad together and they're just starting to pick some more points up.

"I'm sure by the end of the season they will be up at the top end of the table."
