Scunthorpe United have sacked their manager Mark Robins.

The former Rotherham, Coventry and Barnsley manager was appointed in October 2014, succeeding the sacked Russ Wilcox.

He had been out of work since leaving Huddersfield just one game into the 2014-15 season and was handed a three-year contract.

A statement on the club website said:: “Scunthorpe United Football Club have terminated the contracts of manager Mark Robins and assistant manager Ned Kelly with immediate effect.

“United chairman Peter Swann said: ‘We are sad to part company with Mark and Ned, but we have to think about the best interests of Scunthorpe United Football Club.

‘We wish Mark and Ned all the best for the future.’”

Scunthorpe lie 16th in League One, six points clear of the relegation zone.
