Scunthorpe United boss brands Bolton's attack 'best in League Two' and reacts to defeat against Wanderers

Scunthorpe United boss Neil Cox believes Bolton's attacking threats rival those of any in League Two but was disappointed he felt his Iron side showed Wanderers that they were a 'big club' compared to them.

The Trotters picked up their third win on the bounce in League Two and fourth in succession in all competitions with a 1-0 victory over the Iron at Glanford Park.

Peter Kioso's goal after the break following great work from Nathan Delfouneso proved to be enough to earn Wanderers all three points and lifted them to 13th in the table.

Former Bolton player Cox admitted that his former club are a good side and praised the Trotters' attack as 'easily' the top one in League Two.

But he felt his side gave Bolton too much respect and was disappointed with the manner of the goal conceded, adding there was not much in the game, in his view.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "I'm disappointed. I think Bolton are a good side. I think their front four is probably easily the front four of this division, but I'm disappointed that we've come off and lost the game because I think we had an opportunity.

"I've just told the boys, we've had an opportunity to beat Bolton at home, we're in the same league and I think we showed them a little bit too much that they're a big club and we're not.

"That's what really is grinding me a little bit and I've told the players that and we go again next week."

Speaking additionally to the club website, Cox added: "We're disappointed with the result really, and I knew it was going to be a difficult game, but I tried to be brave and play three up at the front.

"I thought we'd try to close them down, as the front three worked really well in the first half and we had some really good opportunities.

"There was a great chance from a set play, but I don’t think there was really a lot in the game.

"In the second half we just seemed to come out really slow, didn’t do what we have been doing and didn’t really pass it well at all. We just went long too soon.

"I think we conceded a really poor goal, and we had enough opportunities to sort it out. Our one-versus-one defending wasn’t good enough and we got punished for it.”
