Merseyside Police confirmed reports of an attempted theft in Maghull yesterday evening (Sunday).

A police spokeswoman told the ECHO : "At around 5.55pm we received a report that two males on a canal boat in the Leeds-Liverpool canal were acting suspiciously.

"It was reported that the males attempted to steal a boat from the garden of a property on Liverpool Road North.

"The males were reported to have made off on their boat in the direction of Aintree."

Police officers searched the canal path but were unable to find the men, or their boat.

The men are described as white, aged around 40 years old, both with dark hair and of slim build.

At the time of the incident one of the men was wearing a grey hoodie and the other was wearing a royal blue jacket and dark blue tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone in the Maghull area of the canal yesterday evening who saw anything or anyone suspicious is asked to contact police.
