'Scumbag' burglar in sliders breaks into salon days after reopening

A burglar wearing sliders caused £600 worth of damage breaking into a salon that had only been reopened three days.

Artizan Hair Bar, on Sussex road, Southport, was targeted by a ‘scumbag’ who used a hammer to smash his way through the salon side door.

The burglar then ‘brazenly’ strolled around, switched on lights, and rooted in cupboards and drawers.

The owner of Artizan Hair Bar, Tim Moss, told the ECHO : "I just can't believe how brazen they were.

"We’re on two main roads and the salon is lit up, the fact it's happened to the front side door it's just upsetting on your first week open."

Tim was alerted to the break in, that happened at around 2am, from the barber upstairs who heard the noise.

He believes the noise from the barber waking may have spooked the burglar who took off after around two minutes.

The man didn’t steal anything but caused around £600 worth of damage.

Tim posted images of the wreckage caused on Facebook with the caption: "Thanks very much whoever broke into Artizan Hair Bar last night. You complete scumbag. CCTV is all over and I’ll find out who you are."

CCTV of the break in shows the burglar boldly strolling around the salon and looking around in cupboards and drawers.

The man is wearing dark clothing including black pants, a dark puffer coat, hat, facemask, socks and sliders.

CCTV from inside the salon even shows the man switching on the light in the store room to get a better look around.

The 40-year-old added: "He was wearing sliders, blatantly smashed his way in, he just wandered round, got his mask on, not a care in the world.

"He has a look around , clearly looking for money but the salon reception is sectioned off and there’s no money ever kept in the salon anyway.

"He just caused a lot of problems for nothing at all. It’s three days after being open and now we've been set back.

"The salon is mental busy, we have been clearing up all around our clients it's just not what we needed.

"We’ve been shut for three months and three days in got a £600 bill to sort out."

After posting the CCTV on Facebook Tim said he received a lot of support from friends, family and other salon owners.

He said: "The Facebook reaction is amazing, another salon sent us Maccies this morning to keep us going, loads of others have offered a helping hand it's been amazing."

Facebook user Sandra Williams said: "Horrified for you Tim, I have a spare chair in my salon Saturday and Sunday if you need."

Pat N Paul added: "Absolute scum hope you catch him."

While a third, Erika Nerger commented: "Vile low life"

The salon has ‘thankfully’ been able to reopen, however there has been added cost of fixing the damage.

Tim said: "It could have been a lot worse, I’m glad nothing was stolen and we have managed to reopen thankfully but it could have been a lot worse.

"If they cause anymore damage there wouldn’t have been any space to work on clients and we’re already open seven days a week to fit them all in."
