'Scum' who exploded firework in takeaway are 'disgrace to the city'

The thugs who exploded a firework in a takeaway and recorded it have been branded "scum" and slammed as a "disgrace to the city".

Hundreds of people reacted furiously when footage of the attack on the Moonlight Takeaway, in Kirkdale, was shared online.

It showed a man run towards the shop with his face covered and his hood up.

He is being recorded by two friends waiting in a car across the street when he throws a firework into the takeaway and it explodes.

Staff are then forced to jump out of the way of the firework to avoid being injured.

The group laugh as their friend runs towards them in the car and they make off from the scene, leaving the business with damage to their tiles.

On social media, people condemned the behaviour and shared their sympathy with the takeaway owner and staff.

Commenting on Facebook, ECHO reader Heather Holyland said: "Absolute scum.

"Honest people trying to make a living and providing us with a service. Having to put up with this."

Karen Marie also said: "Vile people in this world. Imagine it was their family members in there."

Lee Johno added: "Disgusting.

"Seriously what is wrong with people these days."

On Tiwtter, user @JedTipToe said: "What a disgrace to the city. Not proper scousers."

The manager of Moonlight, Amir, told the ECHO : "He came by the door and had his face covered.

"He threw in the firework and next thing it was just, bang, bang, bang, and the smoke filled the store.

"It damaged some tiles on the wall and floor but thankfully no one was hurt."

Amir explained that this same thing had happened a few times during October last year and that staff just wanted to be left alone.

He claimed that previously attacks were carried out by kids - but this time he says the attacker looked considerably older.

He added: "This happened last year, a few times, and no one was hurt then either thankfully.

"It was kids then, almost doing it as a prank.

"But this was a man and his friends just watched him do it and laugh before driving off."

Amir said that the incident had been reported to the police but that they just wanted to be left alone.

He said: "It is very sad they would do this to us."
