Screen at Perth cinema to undergo a big revamp

Perth Playhouse is getting ready to completely refurbish another one of its cinema screens.

Only a few months ago, screen three at the Playhouse was given a complete makeover, with the tired seats being replaced with luxury leather sofas, and a brand new screen.

Now, screen four is set to get a similar makeover, with new leather seats, a new screen lens and a surround sound system.

The screen was closed off in the first week in January, but Cathy Moran, the cinema’s general manager, says she hopes the new-look screen will open in early March.

She says since the new screen three was opened, cinema-goers have gone from refusing to see films in that screen, to seeing any film at all because it is so comfy.

Cathy said: “We should have screen four open about early March, I would say.

“It will be a brand new screen, just like screen three, with new leather seats, a new lens for the screen, and surround sound, so everything about the screen will be getting upgraded.

“It will be getting sound-proofed as well, so there will be no issues like we had before.

“Screen three has been really successful, people are coming in and asking just to see a film in screen three.

“We are hoping to have the same success with screen four, especially as the new seats will be much nicer that what was in there before.

“If all goes well, we will be looking to get more of the screens done and bring them all up a level.”

Once the new-look screen four opens, Cathy says all the latest blockbusters will be shown in either the luxury screen three or the new screen four.

She continued: “The most popular films and all of our live events will get divided between screens three and four.

“Screen four is more accessible as well because it has no steps.

“Personally, I am so excited about this - it is great to have people coming in and saying they want to watch a film in the new screen and it doesn’t matter which film it is.”

It is hoped the new look screen four at Perth Playhouse will open to the public in the spring.
