Screams heard from Aldi car park as mass brawl involving nearly 50 people erupts

Screams could be heard from a car park where a mass brawl involving almost 50 people broke out in the early hours.

A woman in her 30s was left seriously hurt following the shocking incident in Gorton.

Police believe she was hit by a car.

It followed a mass brawl on the Aldi car park in Garratt Way, just off Hyde Road.

Officers remained at the scene this afternoon as an investigation continues. GMP said no arrests have been made.

They were called at 4am to reports of a large fight involving nearly 50 people.

One resident who overlooks the car park told how he was trying to get to sleep, and was woken by loud noises.

He said: "I heard shouting and screaming.

"I just thought it was normal things but then the screaming didn’t stop.

“I saw a lot of people in the parking lot screaming at each other."

He said he heard a bang and a woman screaming.

Another resident said she also heard screaming, but didn’t think it was anything unusual as there is often people making noise in that area.

Crime scene investigators spent hours at the scene combing the area for clues.

The store remained open to shoppers, but the car park was taped off. It re-opened at about 2pm.

One officer was seen taking pictures of an area of the pavement where evidence markers had been placed.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called at 4am this morning (Sunday 15 August) to a report of a large fight involving nearly 50 people on a car park off Garratt Way, Manchester.

"On officers' arrival, the group dispersed and a woman in her 30s was being treated in an ambulance - it is believed a vehicle had collided with her and she suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should contact police online, if able, via www.gmp.police.uk or call 101 quoting incident 613 of 15/08/2021.

"Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
