'Screaming and shouting' - The amusing Ritchie nickname Willock didn't want to say at Newcastle

Callum Wilson sometimes calls Matt Ritchie 'Gordon Ramsay' because the Newcastle United wing-back is 'always barking at other people' like the chef.

Ritchie is never one to hold back, whether it is a training game or a relegation six-pointer, and the 31-year-old has played an influential role in Newcastle's recent turnaround.

As well as providing five assists, Ritchie has been a much-needed voice of authority on the field since he came back into the side in April.

When Joe Willock headed Newcastle back in front against West Ham last month, for example, it was Ritchie who roared, 'Come on lads - we f------ go now!' as his team-mates made their way to the centre circle for the restart.

Tellingly, Jamaal Lascelles has rarely made a decision as Newcastle captain without first running it past Ritchie and Wilson already knew what to expect from the Gosport native when he joined the club from Bournemouth last summer.

The pair previously spent two years together at the Vitality Stadium and Wilson has confirmed that Ritchie is 'always screaming and shouting for no reason whatsoever' like Ramsay.

"I actually call him that sometimes," he told Sky Sports. "When we were at Bournemouth together, we used to say that he's like an angry Gordon Ramsay.

"I think it's his mannerisms and the way he carries himself as well. He's always barking at other people and stuff on the training field."

Let's just say Wilson is not alone in seeing the resemblance and even Joe Willock, who only joined the club on loan back in February, quickly noted the similarities between the pair.

"To be fair, I didn't want to say it but I was thinking that," he added. "Even the way his mannerisms are, he's a bit like him."
