It's a big year for Newcastle's Scream for Pizza, who are set to open their first restaurant after five years of travelling around the North East with mobile van, Goldie.
Scream for Pizza's Alex Walker and Vicky Featherby were back at Wylam Brewery over the Bank Holiday weekend to take on nine other independent vendors in the third 'Slice Wars' pizza contest, ahead of opening the restaurant in Sandyford .
Scream reclaimed the title they lost out on last year as they were crowned 'undisputed winners' at Slice Wars Episode 3: Return of the Slice.
The contest, held on Friday May 3 and Saturday May 4, saw customers buy £3 portions, before submitting their feedback, which judges consider alongside sale numbers to determine a winner.
Organisers 44 Events revealed the winner on Tuesday, May 7.
"A huge congratulations to Scream For Pizza on taking back their Slice Wars title. They are this year's undisputed winners. They are such a joy to work with and we wish them well for their new venture and the opening of their own restaurant."
Newcastle and Northumberland-based van, Fire & Dough won praise alongside Yorkshire's Simply Wood Fired for bringing their "A-game" and racking up huge sales. County Durham's Alfresco Napoli earned a special mention from the judges, which included last 2018 winners Log Fire Pizza Co .
"A guge thanks to all our vendors. You really have confirmed that you are the best in the business and we look forward to seeing you back next year," 44 Events added.
Slice Wars is set to return next year. On May 24 and May 25, Wylam Brewery will host the 'Grill-A-Warfare' barbecue competition. Entry is free.
