Scrambler yob told sobbing teen 'we're going to get guns' after he attacked her at family fun day

A scrambler yob who kicked and punched a teenage girl, as she helped a child on a pony ride told her 'we're going back to get guns'.

Police were called out to the family fun day at Bowerdale Park in Seaforth, on Saturday afternoon, following reports scrambler yobs had assaulted an 18-year-old.

The girl who was attacked was a worker with Shy Lowen horse and pony sanctuary.

Bernadette Langfield, chair of the Netherton based charity, told the ECHO that the young woman was assaulted as she helped a child who was on a pony ride at the event.

It is understood that the child was not harmed in the incident.

She said: "She was kicked in the back and then punched in the face.

"At the time she was helping out on our pony ride for children.

"A group of men who were stood nearby ran over but by the time they got to the scene the lad had jumped on the back of a waiting scrambler.

"They are cowards. "

The organisers of the ruined family fun event said they shut down the event after hearing the scrambler yobs speaking about guns.

A woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I saw the motorbikes, and then I went over to the scene.

"The girl who was assaulted was hysterical - she just kept crying.

"She told me that her attacker had said that they were 'going back to get guns.'

"We then had no option but to call the police and cancel the rest of the event."

The ECHO has been told that two motorbikes with four men on stopped on Seaforth Road at the entrance to Bowerdale Park.

One of the men then walked in to the park and assaulted the 18-year-old woman.

The organisers added: "This event is in its sixth  year and we have been trouble free up to Saturday.

"I am not sure what we will do next year.

"We are devastated at what happened on Saturday and so sorry for the families who had to leave early."

Police confirmed that they were called out to Bowerdale Park on Saturday afternoon after an 18-year-old woman was assaulted.

Chief Inspector Paul Sutcliffe said: "This incident has left a lot of people of all ages shocked and disappointed, and we are determined to find those responsible.

"Witnesses are being spoken to and CCTV opportunities are being looked into.

"Reports of the anti-social and nuisance use of off-road motorbikes have decreased significantly across Merseyside in the last 18 months, which is extremely encouraging for us and our communities, some of whom have been blighted by the issue. We have worked with local authorities, schools, youth groups, housing associations, and people within the communities affected to keep scramblers off our streets, with great successes.

"But we are not complacent and incidents like this are an unwelcome reminder that people in some areas are still affected by the reckless riding, noise and associated crime brought about by their illegal use.

"Our officers will act on any information given to remove these bikes from the streets, and we ask people in our communities to help us."

Anyone with information on this incident or on who is using off-road bikes illegally and where they are being stored is asked to message @MerPolCC, or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111
