Scrambler rider performs wheelies at bike crash site where teen died last night

This is the moment a scrambler rider performs a wheelie at the scene where a teenager was killed when a stolen bike crashed last night.

James Malins, 18, died following the collision on Booker Avenue, close to West Allerton train station, at 8.40pm on Monday.

Another man, also 18, on the same scrambler bike, was left fighting for his life.

A second scrambler, which police said was travelling in tandem with the other bike, initially stopped at the scene.

The rider then drove off towards Mather Avenue.

Both bikes were travelling without lights on, witnesses said.

The VW Tiguan car, involved in the smash, had two children, aged nine and 11, inside the vehicle, although neither are thought to be badly hurt.

Today, a video was sent to the ECHO of a crowd of people gathered at the crash site, which showed another scrambler rider driving past, dressed all in black, performing a wheelie.

Tributes to Mr Malins, who was nicknamed "Fish", have surfaced on social media included: "Never forgot u brudda[sic] never had bad bone in ur[sic] body, love u forever lad."

Debris was seen in the middle of the road after the accident.

House-to-house enquiries are being carried out and CCTV opportunities are also being explored.
