Scrambler bike yob left woman 'covered in blood' in promenade crash

A scrambler bike yob who crashed into a woman out walking her dog on Otterspool Promenade leaving her "covered head to toe in blood" was locked up.

Anthony Rowson was dangerously riding the off-road vehicle along the promenade in convoy with others.

The incident took place during the height of the first national lockdown, but the 29-year-old still travelled from his home in Kirkby to the Aigburth area to wreak havoc on the waterfront.

Rowson was on board one scrambler bike which careered into a woman, in her 30s, who was out for a walk.

The Knowsley man was with others on off-road vehicles, witnesses said, which prompted a flurry of reports to police, at 12.25pm, on March 29, 2020.

Rowson ploughed into the woman, knocking her over as she broke her wrist and was left with a badly bloodied face.

Onlookers claimed one of the scrambler gang allegedly pulled a knife when shocked members of the public gathered to help her and remonstrate with them.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested as the rest of the gang escaped on their bikes towards Jericho Lane.

He must take an extended retest of he wises to get behind the wheel again.

Police described the incident as "shocking" and praised members of the public who tried to stop the scrambler yobs from escaping.

One witness said at the time: "She's covered head to toe in blood, she's just gone into the ambulance, her little dog is barking his head off."

Constable James Evans, from Merseyside Police's Matrix Roads Policing Unit, said: "I would like to thank the public for their assistance in this lengthy investigation which has resulted in us taking a dangerous offender off the roads.

"The pedestrian involved in this incident was left shaken and needed hospital treatment.

"We take illegal use of off-road vehicles very seriously, and will respond to any calls made to us.

"In the hours and days following on from this incident, a significant number of off-road bikes were seized in the Otterspool Area.

"If anyone has information in relation to anti-social vehicle use or where they are stored, please have the confidence to report it to the police.”

"Through Operation Brookdale, Merseyside Police will continue to work to eradicate the illegal and nuisance use of off-road bikes.
