Police are now looking for the driver of the black Vauxhall Astra that collided with the scrambler bike.

Emergency services were called to Waterpark Drive at 2.30pm following reports of a crash involving the Astra and a black and white Honda scrambler bike.

The car was driven a short distance from the scene before the driver abandoned the vehicle, fleeing towards The Birches.

Merseyside Police this morning said efforts to locate him were ongoing.

Appealing for information, Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: “Our investigations into this incident are at an early stage and we have been speaking to possible witnesses and seeking CCTV footage to establish exactly what happened.

“I want to call upon anyone who may have seen the collision or has any information that could assist our enquiries to come forward.

“Were you driving in the Waterpark Drive area at around 2.30pm, and perhaps captured the collision itself or bike or the car on dashcam in the moments before it? If so, we ask that you contact police as soon as you can as you may have vital evidence.”

A section of Waterpark Drive and Haswell Drive closed off by police has re-opened after forensic examination of the scene concluded.
