LUCKNOW: Two days after addressing a rally in poll-bound UP, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, throwing all preparations in Lucknow out of gear as everyone, from senior members to other volunteers rushed to get themselves tested.
Party MP and UP in charge Sanjay Singh, who was with Kejriwal throughout his Lucknow visit, had himself tested twice on Monday and addressed a rally in Noida as well. “I tested negative both times. All seven persons who were closest to Arvind on Sunday, have tested negative. We are taking all precautions and if necessary, will get tested again,” he said.
The relief of the negative tests belied the chaos that ensued in the morning, after reports of Kejriwal’s positive test came in. Several party members made a beeline to get tested though none of the senior members said that they were isolated or were planning to in the coming days.
From January 10, the party is planning to flag off its rath yatras through which it will publicize its agenda for the 2022 UP assembly polls. Singh is expected to lead the yatras. A party spokesperson said that these would be held along with meetings across districts, where members from its Delhi team, including MLAs, will be present.
