Scouting report: How has Rafa Mir really performed for Nottingham Forest?

Rafa MIr has struggled to make an impact at Nottingham Forest as he is yet to score in 13 appearances for the club.

However, the 22-year-old has only started twice with the vast majority of his minutes coming from the bench late in games.

With January coming, Forest are likely to push hard to bring in another striker into the squad. But what of Mir? Has he struggled as much as some fans believe, or is the Spain Under-21 international the exciting talent Wolves believe?

Souting expert Josh Williams had a look at the stats say.

Based on the evidence how has Mir played this season?

Mir's output, based on a very small sample size this season of 455 minutes, doesn't bode well for him.

He should have scored more. He's struggled to find the target with his shots and his shot map suggests that he's not particularly inclined to sense good chances, plus moves are breaking down with him.

There's a positive in that he's shooting a lot when on the pitch with an average of 3.76 per 90, which is around the average of Mohamed Salah, but he's not finding the net and that average may decrease with more minutes played.

Has he had any chances to score but missed them?

Expected Goals (xG) can offer an insight into the likelihood of a shot being scored by considering aspects such as difficulty and location, and it tends to provide an accurate summary of whether a player deserved fewer or more goals based on his chances.

According to xG, Mir should have scored 1.8 goals by this stage which can be roughly rounded up to two, but he's actually bagged none.

By that logic, there has been a degree of underperformance to his finishing, especially his ability to find the target. He's taken 19 shots this season and found the target with only four of those.

Some 51 strikers have played over 500 minutes in the Championship this season, with only one of those posting a worse shots on target percentage.

Has he kept the ball for his team?

Mir's theme of being unable to find the target with shots also seems to continue in regard to his passing.

Only 74.2 percent of his passes have been successfully completed this season, which isn't great. Generally, a relatively low pass completion is to be expected for attackers, as they are naturally inclined to embrace risks on the ball.

However, in the case of Mir, he appears to be taking those risks with very little reward at present.

Is there anyway of telling if he would be benefit playing with a second striker?

That's difficult to determine but considering Mir is struggling to get on the end of clear-cut chances, perhaps having an additional figure nearby to distract opposing defenders would benefit his ability to gain space to shoot closer to goal.
