Scouting for Girls in Newcastle will see band's August play date follow indie rock weekends at Central Park

Indie music will be rocking Newcastle's Central Park in the run-up to the arrival of Scouting for Girls who will be taking to the stage there this August.

The outdoor beer garden set-up in Times Square has been proving a huge hit this summer with its wide range of events - which last weekend included the screening of the women's Euros final - and now the mood turns to full-on music this month. Live At Central, headlined by indie rockers Circa Wave, will be upping the tempo this coming Sunday, August 7.

Then on August 17 it will be the turn of Pale Waves, described as Manchester’s rising indie mavericks for their experimental sound, to continue the party ahead of Scouting for Girls' big date the following night. The noughties favourite three-piece - Roy Stride, Pete Ellard and Greg Churchouse - behind such hits as She’s So Lovely, Heartbeat, Famous and This Ain’t A Love Song will be bringing their signature feel-good vibe to the city on August 18 at 7pm.

A Central Park spokesperson said that the venue's line-up, in addition to its outdoor bars and street food outlets, has proved the outdoor party space to be this summer and added: "As well as a full programme of amazing interactive pop-up events, we’re also super-committed to providing the best in live music and we’re proud to welcome the likes of Circa Waves, Pale Waves and Scouting for Girls to the main stage."

Central Park is open seven days a week, from midday to midnight, and also on its August programme is a Kroud Karaoko event this Saturday night; a gig by Smoove & Turrell on August 11 and a drag convention and show on August 14 plus a quiz and brunch events. The Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk fight will be screened live on August 20.
