Scousers say 'fair play' as 80-year-old shacks up with Egyptian toyboy

An 80-year-old woman was told to 'have fun' by ECHO readers after shacking up with her Egyptian toyboy.

Iris Jones, from Somerset, is set to marry 35-year-old Mohamed Ahmed Irbriham after meeting him on Facebook.

The former cleaner fell head over heels for Mohamed after she travelled to Cairo to meet him in person.

After four days they tried to wed in the Egyptian capital but didn’t have the right paperwork.

Now Iris is saving up to return – despite opposition from her family.

Iris insists Mohamed  isn’t after her money nor is he seeking a passport to Britain.

She told the Mirror: “If he’s marrying me for my fortune he’ll be sadly disappointed because I live on a pension.

“I don’t suffer fools gladly. I’m honest and I’m truthful and I told him straight away he couldn’t be a freeloader.

“In Egypt we were quite frivolous, going out to the best restaurants all the time and we split everything 50/50.

“He’s even said he’ll sign a prenup because it’s me he wants – not my house.

“I’ve spent years making other people happy, now I just want to marry the man I love before I die.

"I’ve always been a bit of a rebel and he’s just perfect for me".

After the ECHO published the article earlier today, some readers were more than sceptical about Iris' arrangement.

But others actively encouraged Iris to marry Mohamed, telling her to 'have fun'.

Tony Winter wrote: "Yes nothing wrong with an elderly woman being spoiled and flirted on by a younger man, no one seems to care when its the other way round."

Caroline Wilkinson said: "Aw if it makes her happy at this time of life go for it. Yes got no money so would be very wary."

Phil Read wrote: "Fair play to them. Hope it works out. Everyone deserves happiness."

Graham Baldwin commented: "Good luck to them."

Andrew Campbell said: "She’s 80 and having fun and if she and her family don’t lose out. What does it matter!?"

Sue Bate was unsure of Mohamed's 'love' for Iris, but said: "At her time of life, hopefully she'll have a little happiness, and from what I've read she's got her legal matters sorted, so everything goes to her children, I personally wish her the very best."
