Scousers absolutely loved how racial abuse family were treated by Liverpool

The people of Liverpool were delighted to see how a family who were racially abused at Anfield were made to feel special by the club they love.

Amir Malik was with his wife, son and daughter during the LFC Legends game in March when a fellow supporter hurled abuse at his family.

The supporter, Steven Gallagher, was later banned from Anfield for life and given a suspended prison sentence but Amir's family were left terrified and angry by the ordeal.

But yesterday we reported how the club stepped up to make the Malik family's day by giving them a free day out for Sunday's win over Chelsea.

Louise Redknapp says she had to leave "traditional" Jamie after feeling pure panic

And Scousers have been quick to express their joy at the positive end to the story.

On the ECHO's facebook page, Suzanne Moore said: ‘’Made up to read this. Well done to the fans’’ and Nigel Hughes added: "‘’Well done Liverpool. No room for racism in this world let alone football."

As well as the club, lot of credit was given to the fans by ECHO readers:

‘’Lovely gesture from club and fans’’ Pat Gallagher commented.

Chris Dalton said:  ‘’Well done to the Liverpool fans for this one’’ and Darrel Friel  added: ‘’Well done to the decent Liverpool fans’’.

Alison James agreed, stating: "‘The true fans rise above it and show the goodness in their hearts’’

Roland Chowfatt  was also impressed by both club and supporters, adding: ‘’I applaud what Liverpool FC did and what our fellow reds did as well’’.

After the match, Amir told the ECHO: "The amount of love me and my family received yesterday from the fans was amazing.

"From entering the stadium people were recognising Ayaan and stopping to talk to him and say some really kind words just to make him feel as comfortable as they could.

"It was actually making me a bit emotional just seeing the amount of love people were giving him."
