Scouse teenager schools Boris Johnson over his single mother comments

A Scouse teenager has slapped down Boris Johnson over comments he wrote about single mothers.

The Prime Minister once wrote about an "appalling" growth in single mothers, who he described as “uppity and irresponsible” for getting pregnant when not married.

Writing in the Spectator in 1995, Johnson also criticised what he called “feckless” working class men and described the children of single mums as “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”, in a column unearthed by the Labour Party.

He also wrote about an "appalling proliferation of single mothers."

His comments have provoked a furious reaction - and Mr Johnson was confronted live on air by a single mother when doing an LBC radio phone in earlier today.

And someone else who has taken the Prime Minister to task is 17-year-old Eva Carroll.

Eva, who lives in Maghull, is Liverpool's Member of Youth Parliament.

She recently brought a motion about street harassment to the floor of the House of Commons for a special sitting of the youth parliament.

And her work on this area has seen her appear on national television programmes including This Morning.

Eva tweeted a picture of herself at the Parliamentary dispatch box and revealed that she is the child of a single mother.

Addressing Mr Johnson's comments, she said: "Boris Johnson says that kids raised by single mums are ‘ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate'. I am the daughter of a single mum and I seem to be doing okay! #ThanksMum "

Her tweet has now gone viral, collecting more than 2,000 likes.

Scores of people have also commented on Eva's post to share their stories of single mothers and to praise her for her words.
