Scotts in Troon restaurant to close as Covid outbreak hits popular venue

Scotts in Troon is to close after a confirmed outbreak of coronavirus.

Restaurant staff at the popular Buzzworks Ayrshire venue are self-isolating as a contact tracing operation gets underway.

Affected staff are being advised to self-isolate for 10 days. Hospitality bosses say a small number of the team have tested positive for COVID-19.

Management have cited the safety of staff and customers as their 'top priority' in taking the voluntary decision to close the doors for a short period of time.

It has not been confirmed when the venue will reopen.

A spokesperson for Buzzworks told Ayrshire Live: “Following a small number of our team testing positive for Covid, we have taken the voluntary decision to close Scotts restaurant at Troon Yacht Haven for a short period as a precautionary measure.

“All close contacts have been notified and are self-isolating.

"The safety of our people and our customers is our top priority and we are working closely with Health Protection Scotland and the Scottish Test and Protect scheme.”

It comes after an Ayr bar decided to shut its doors until next week following one member of staff testing positive.

Arthur Street Kitchen announced their closure yesterday and will reopen to customers on Monday, June 5.

Lynne McNiven, director of public health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team can confirm that a contact tracing exercise has been carried out within a work place in the South Ayrshire council area, following confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

"We have undertaken a careful risk assessment to identify any individuals who may have had contact with the confirmed cases. These individuals have been contacted and told to self-isolate for 10 days and book a test.

"All relevant public health measures are in place and our public health team is working with South Ayrshire environmental health officers to manage and monitor the situation.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"People living in Ayrshire and Arran are reminded to follow the current guidelines and FACTS to help stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in our communities."

The health board has made available rapid COVID-19 testing for people without symptoms in Ayrshire.
