Scottish zoo celebrates birthday of 'UK's oldest' lemur aged 37

A lemur who is "one of the oldest" in the UK has celebrated his birthday at a Scottish zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo shared photographs of Stumpy the ring-tailed lemur enjoying his 37th birthday. The animal was treated to a party with his sons at the zoo, complete with his own birthday cake.

In the snaps, Stumpy can be seen chowing down on the cake — which spells out the number 37 with carrots. Taking to Facebook to share the news, Five Sisters Zoo wrote: "Happy 37th birthday to our ring-tailed lemur, Stumpy!

"Born in 1986, we believe Stumpy to be one of the oldest lemurs in the UK. He celebrated with a cake made by our keeper Kathryn, which he shared with his three sons."

Before long, the post had received almost 600 likes and nearly 50 comments. Facebook users and fans of the zoo were quick to share their well wishes to the lemur.

"Happy birthday lovely wee man," one wrote, while a second shared: "Happy birthday stumpy, same birthday as me"

A third commented: "Heck he's still going strong!"

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Awww look at these babies".

With the average life expectancy for ring-tailed lemurs being approximately 20 to 25 years old, Stumpy more than earned his lovely birthday party with his family.
