Scottish youngster hit by car in busy Midlothian town as police launch probe

A youngster received hospital treatment after being struck by a car on a busy Midlothian street.

An investigation has been launched after the child, who has not been named, was involved in a collision with the vehicle outside the North Kirk Church in Penicuik on Sunday morning.

Police confirmed they had received a report of the schoolboy being hit by the car, but did not attend the incident.

The boy did not require emergency treatment at the scene but was later taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Officers say enquiries into the nature of the incident are ongoing, but did not confirm whether it could be categorised as a hit and run.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Sunday, 10 October, we received a report of a child having been struck by a car in John Street, Penicuik.
