Scottish weather Twitter page's @penisnow handle raises eyebrows with unique name

With the recent cold snap across the country set to continue, a Scottish weather watch Twitter page has raised a few eyebrows (and more than a few smiles) with its unique name.

Those hoping to pronounce the Penicuik snow account's title and hashtag will have to tread very carefully to ensure they get it right.

Using the handle @penisnow (which we assume is meant to be pronounced 'Peni-snow') and the hashtag #penisnow, the account, which aims to keep people up to date with "all news on snow in Penicuik", has left some people in stiches.

Claiming to be a genuine account, it offers regular snow updates for in and around the Midlothian town.

However, it's also led to some hilarious posts with people taking full advantage of the hashtag over the past few years.

One follower wrote: "Mine was 8” (20cm) this morning. How does your @penisnow measure up this morning?"

Another added: "Be careful out and about today folks, it might just be a bit hard to get out after that thick pounding of #penisnow last night and possibly more to come."

A Twitter user even suggested they start a new Penicuik-based roof repair specialist, which they could call "@penislater".

Not everyone is fan of the handle though, one person took time out to tweet them to ask them to change it: "I don't want penis now, thank you. Please think of a better handle."

To which the @penisnow team responded: "We tried and this the best we came up with."

The informative and often hilarious account is the ideal way to ensure you're kept up to date with the snow updates - as well as a few laughs - in the Penicuik area.
