Scottish 'unicorn' gin for Lidl wins top award at Gin Masters

A popular Scottish gin which features a unicorn has been crowned a winner at the 2019 Gin Masters.

Lidl's own Aquine triumphed in the Premium Gin (£16 - £20) category.

The retailer swept the board at the awards with six other gold accolades for its stand-out gin range available across the UK, including Hampstead Gin, Hortus Gin and Gin Liqueurs and Finton’s London Dry.

Created in partnership with The Glasgow Distillery, the Aquine bottle features a striking unicorn, inspired by Scotland’s national animal.

Full-bodied with a fruity finish, the gin crafted with Scottish water and botanicals such as juniper, angelica root and rosehip, has proved popular with consumers since its launch last year.

Paul McQuade, Head of Buying for Scotland said: "Receiving such an outstanding award from the prestigious Gin Masters is testament to our commitment to offering the highest quality spirits at great prices.

“With the continued demand for Scottish craft gin, creating Aquine was a natural next step for Lidl and we have had a fantastic response from consumers and critics alike.”

Aquine is part of the permanent gin range in Scotland and is available to purchase for just £19.99.
