Scottish tractor raiders steal £280,000 worth of blue WKD from bottling plant

Tractor raiders carried out a daring heist to steal more than £280,000 worth of alcopops from a Scottish bottling plant.

Thieves are thought to have torched one of their getaway trailers following a two-day operation to steal the pallets of blue WKD at the facility in Cumnock.

Officers believe the thieves initially broke into Caledonian bottlers on Saturday, September 18, before returning to the scene two days later.

A second attack, in the early hours of Monday, September 20, saw thousands of bottles of the vodka-based drink nicked, however one of the tractor trailers was later found ablaze on the A76 between Mennock and Enterkinfoot in Dumfriesshire later that evening.

Images show a river of blue booze pouring across the roadway after several bottles shattered.

Police have since launched an appeal for anyone with information about the initial break in or dash cam footage of the getaway convoy to get in touch.

They’re also urging members of the public to contact officers if they’re offered bottles of Blue WKD at discounted prices, according to the Daily Record.

Detective Constable Hugh Dempster at Kilmarnock Police Office said: “I would like to speak to anyone who has any information on the actual break-in at Caledonian Bottlers or anyone who may have seen a convoy of three HGV vehicles leaving the premises.

"I’d also ask any drivers who were travelling on the A76 towards Mennock, late on Monday evening, to check their dash cam footage as they may have captured one or more of the stolen vehicles.

“Anyone who is offered ‘Blue WKD’ alcohol at a much discounted price is also asked to contact police immediately as this may be the stolen alcohol.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Kilmarnock on telephone number 101 quoting incident number 1765 of 20 September 2021 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
