Scottish tourist's 'relaxing Thomas Cook holiday' was 'full of partying teens taking hippy crack'

A Scottish tourist is furious after her relaxing holiday turned out to be more like an 18-30 style party break.

Susan Dunnachie, 45, from Rutherglen , Lanarkshire, booked a holiday to Zante Plaza Apartments and was looking forward to a Greek island sunshine break with her mother Sandra Dunnachie, 67.

The hotel was described as family friendly on Thomas Cook's website but when she got there Susan found there were several parties of young people in their late teens and twenties.

She says some of the youngsters were using nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas or hippy crack, and leaving their empty cannisters in the public areas of the hotel.

She said the young people were being encouraged to take part in drinking games, were noisy during the night and were walking around the hotel inappropriately dressed.

Susan said: "We were coming back after going for a walk after dinner.

"And there was a gentleman cleaning the pool area.

"There had been people taking hippy crack. There were cannisters lying.

"There were towels and banana skins. We had to step over that.

"There were men at the bar and the barman was encouraging drinking - things like 'five seconds to down a drink'."

Susan said the behaviour of some guests made her uncomfortable.

She said: "They were waking about half naked in fishnet dresses. And I have a picture of a guy walking in the middle of the reception wearing just his boxer shorts.

"It wasn't for families. There wasn't even a swing or a chute.

"I thought it would be quiet because it's for family.

"I didn't realise what it was going to be.

"I paid almost £1000. I want an apology."

Susan says she and her mother were kept up during the night by other guests blaring music and requested a room move to get away from an apartment she describes as 'party central'.

Susan was on holiday for a week, but says had she booked a two-week break, she would have definitely come home early.

When contacted by the Record about Susan's experience, Thomas Cook said they had changed the description of the Zante Plaza Apartments on their website.

It is now listed as suitable for young couples and groups of friends.

A spokesperson for Thomas Cook said: "Customer feedback is very important to us and we recognise that we got the description for the Zante Plaza Hotel & Apartments as a family hotel wrong.

"This has now been updated and we are very sorry for Ms Dunnachie’s recent experience. Our team will be in touch with Ms Dunnachie to discuss further.”
