Scottish Superdry stores partner with Oxfam for new scheme to encourage second hand shopping

Scottish Superdry stores have recently partnered with Oxfam on a new sustainability scheme to encourage fashion lovers to shop second hand.

As the new season approaches, many of us will be wanting to clear out our closet. Now you can put your pre-loved clothes to good use as Superdry will be partnering with Oxfam as part of their 'Give Back' scheme that will help customers support a more sustainable lifestyle.

Superdry stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen will now offer 'give back' boxes where customers can give their pre-loved clothes a new lease of life by donating them.

Once the clothes have been donated, the customer can scan the QR code available on the box, where they will be given the chance to enter a prize draw to win a £100 Superdry voucher. In addition to this, for every donation received, Superdry will top up by giving £1 to Oxfam.

These stores will join with their local Oxfam shop to collect all clothes donated to be resold, reused, or recycled, in order to support the complete life-cycle of the item and its revival for resale.

Danny Sriskandarajah, Chief Executive of Oxfam GB, said: “We’re excited to be partnering with Superdry to help people donate clothes to Oxfam, which will raise vital funds to fight poverty around the world. Donating to Oxfam also helps to reduce the impact of clothing on the environment by giving garments a new lease of life.”

The scheme goes live today and will coincide with Oxfam's #SecondHandSeptember, which aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects that the overconsumption of fashion has on the planet.

Oxfam is asking consumers to support this by donating their pre-loved items and buying second-hand clothes. Shoppers can raise awareness by sharing their one-of-a-kind finds using #SecondHandSeptember and tagging @OxfamGB

Superdry are the latest fashion retailer to encourage and focus on sustainability, as Primark have also recently announced a pledge to make sustainable clothing 'affordable to all'.

CEO Julian Dunkerton has said: “The urgency of the climate crisis has broadened how we think about ourselves and the way we approach business”

“As a business we want to effect positive change for present and future generations and build a positive environmental legacy.”

The new 'Give Back' Scheme is the latest scheme offered by Superdry to help them achieve a more sustainable approach towards clothing. The clothing brand already offers many more incentives to help them become a more sustainably listed brand by 2030.
