Scottish start-up announces former Gartner boss as new chair

A Scottish start-up has appointed former Gartner International chief executive Graham Norton-Standen as its chair.

He takes on the role at Glasgow-based Spelfie with immediate effect.

Previous roles include division president at Digital Equipment Corporation and Electrical Data Systems, now DXC technology.

Standen has also served as chairman, senior board member or advisor to BT, Cable & Wireless, Deutsche Bank, Hewlett Packard, Reuters, Tata Group and Unisys.

Spelfie is aiming to bring real-time satellite imagery to the masses, by capturing sponsored events from space.

Participants take a selfie on the app as a satellite passes overhead and the two images are combined to create a 'space selfie', which is optimised for social media.

Chris Newlands, chief executive at Spelfie, said: “Graham is a highly-respected captain of global industry with a rich c-suite background with a number of the world’s top companies, as well as influencing and accelerating many start-ups.

“His experience, guidance and strategic expertise will take us to the next level.”

Standen added: “Once they described their ambitions and their goals, it was an easy decision to accept their offer to become a hands-on chairman.

"I am here to add value and direction in the short term and scale for the long term.”
