Scottish sporting excellence will once again be celebrated at the Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards in December – and Victoria Primary School in Airdrie could be in the running for more award glory.
Now in its 13th year, the annual event, which is sponsored by sportscotland – the national agency for sport – celebrates the heroes throughout Scottish sport by awarding our sportsmen, women, teams and volunteers for their outstanding achievements in 2019.
And among those likely to be in contention is Victoria Primary; the school achieved a prestigious Gold School Sport Award from sportscotland last year.
There are now 673 schools in Scotland that hold a School Sport Award – a record number – meaning more schools than ever are putting sport at the heart of their school ethos; one of those is Victoria Primary.
Principal teacher Nicola Brownlie said: "We were delighted and extremely proud to have won a Gold School Sport Award.
"Three years ago we recognised that we needed to make improvements in school sport.
"Our whole school community was committed to progressing these developments so having this hard work and commitment recognised was very important to us – and makes it all worthwhile."
Chair of sportscotland, Mel Young, added: "It has been another fantastic year for sport in Scotland; Scottish athletes continue to shine on the world stage and there is terrific work being done by the sporting community across the country to increase the opportunities for as many people as possible to take part in sport.
"It is wonderful to have another chance to recognise such dedicated and hard-working people alongside Scotland’s elite athletes.”
