Scottish software firm strikes deal with global drugs giant

Glasgow-based scientific software firm DeepMatter has today announced a tie-up with drugs giant AstraZeneca.

Under the collaboration, AstraZeneca will use DeepMatter’s DigitalGlassware platform to help accelerate its drug development work. It is the second commercial partnership to be secured by DeepMatter for the platform since it was launched earlier this year. Shares in DeepMatter rose by more than 58% after the news.

The DigitalGlassware platform enables chemistry experiments to be accurately and systematically recorded, coded and entered into a shared data cloud. The platform is designed to enable chemists to work together and to share the details of their experiments from anywhere and in real-time, so that work is not needlessly duplicated and time and money wasted.

Michael Kossenjans, associate director for discovery sciences R&D for AstraZeneca, said: “Our goal is to transform drug design using innovative digital technologies in combination with automation and AI. To get potential new medicines to patients faster, we need to reduce the cycle time for lead identification and optimisation and look forward to working with DeepMatter to assess the potential of DigitalGlassware to help with this.”

Mark Warne, CEO of DeepMatter, said: “We look forward to progressing this exciting collaboration over the coming months as we continue to maximise the potential of the DigitalGlassware platform.”

DeepMatter’s founding scientific director is Glasgow University's Regius Professor of Chemistry Lee Cronin.
