Scottish school bus explodes in terrifying inferno on residential street

A school bus has burst into a fireball on a street in Fife, forcing youngsters into a desperate retreat.

Pupils bailed from the Dunfermline High School bus heading through the village of Culross after a fault.

However, they were left staggered when the coach exploded into flames while they waited for support to arrive.

The bus - which carries First branding on the side - was driving along Low Causeway when the incident occurred.

Images from the scene show schoool children and local residents bailing out into the street to catch a glimpse of the travelling inferno.

No injuries have been reported with all pupils making it off the service before the vehicle caught flames.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews have since rushed to the scene to deal with the blaze, with multiple appliances deployed.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Commuters and motorists have been urged to avoid the area for the next few hours as the operation continues, while public transport services are to be subject to delays and diversions.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.15am on Wednesday, June 2 to reports of a bus alight on Main Street, Culross, Fife.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire and a road closure is currently in place.

"There are no reported casualties."
