Inverness slipped further behind second-placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership after being held to a 3-3 draw at home to Kilmarnock.

First-half goals from Graeme Shinnie and Nick Ross were cancelled out by strikes from Nathan Eccleston and Craig Slater, but Inverness restored their lead seven minutes into the second half, thanks to Danny Williams’s spectacular finish.

Tope Obadeyi showed composure to draw the sides level again after 61 minutes; however, a point was enough to take Caley further ahead of Dundee United in the table.

St Johnstone comfortably won the Tayside derby 2-0, courtesy of Michael O’Halloran’s first-half double, which resulted in the second home defeat of the season for Dundee United.

Tommy Wright’s side were put on the road to victory when O’Halloran opened the scoring after 10 minutes, with a shot that squirmed past United’s debutant keeper, Michal Szromnik. The 24-year-old scored again on 44 minutes.

It meant a second consecutive league defeat for Jackie McNamara’s side, who hope to bounce back in Tuesday’s rearranged game with Inverness.

Motherwell dropped to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership after a 1-0 defeat by Dundee, in a drab encounter at Fir Park. The Dundee defender Paul McGinn scored a lucky goal after 12 minutes, when an intended cross flew into the net to earn the Taysiders all three points.

Ross County won 3-1 at Partick Thistle and leapfrogged Ian Baraclough’s side – who are without a win in eight games – and St Mirren, who lost 3-0 at Aberdeen.

Género Zeefuik scored his fifth goal in six games five minutes from time to earn Hearts a 2-1 win at Queen of the South, and maintain their 20-point lead at the top of the Scottish Championship. Queen of the South went in front in the 23rd minute, when Danny Carmichael tapped in at the back post. Hearts pulled level after 31 minutes, when Callum Paterson picked out Billy King and he slammed the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net.
