Struggling St Mirren suffered their 11th defeat in 15 Premiership matches this season as St Johnstone took three points away from Paisley with a 1-0 victory.
An early Michael O’Halloran goal was enough to seal the win for Tommy Wright’s men and heap more pressure on to the Buddies’ manager, Tommy Craig. The victory is St Johnstone’s third in their past four league games and moves them 12 points clear of St Mirren, who remain rooted in the bottom two, level with Ross County.
Partick and Kilmarnock had to settle for a share of the spoils in an often niggly 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw at Firhill.
The Killie wide-man Tope Obadeyi opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a tap-in, before the defender Danny Seaborne headed in the equaliser with his first goal for the Jags since arriving in the summer, after leaving Coventry.
Dundee had no excuses after throwing away the lead to lose 2-1 at home to Inverness at Dens Park. Greg Stewart gave Dundee the lead in the first half, but goals after the interval from Billy McKay and Ryan Christie gave Caley Thistle victory.
Aberdeen beat Hamilton 3-0 and leapfrogged Alex Neill’s side into fourth place in the league. Ash Taylor’s opening goal from close range put Aberdeen on course for victory. Jon Routledge was also sent off for Accies.
Hearts remain the only unbeaten team in British league football after a 4-1 Scottish Championship win over Queen of the South. A second-half own-goal from Cowdenbeath’s Nat Wedderburn helped relieve some of the pressure on the Rangers manager, Ally McCoist, as his side ground out a narrow 1-0 win at Ibrox. The vultures have been circling McCoist ever since his side slumped to a shock 3-2 defeat by part-time Alloa on Wednesday in the Petrofac Challenge Cup, with reports suggesting that many at Ibrox want him sacked if the club can afford to do so.
David McCracken struck a powerful last-minute winner as Falkirk secured their third straight victory in all competitions with a 1-0 home win against Hibernian.
