Scottish restaurants named among the best in the UK in Tripadvisor 2022 Awards

Three Scottish restaurants have been named among the UK's best eateries in a national award by one of the world’s largest travel guide sites.

The Tripadvisor 2022 Awards have named two Edinburgh restaurants and one Glasgow location as among the best in the UK in two categories.

This comes as five Scottish restaurants were named among the 100 best in the UK in the 2022 National Restaurant Awards.

Here are the Scottish restaurants named among the best on Tripadvisor’s prestigious 2022 list.

Makars Gourmet Mash Bar on Bank Street topped the ‘Everyday Eats’ category, which looks for the country’s best comfort food establishments.

The Mash Bar specialises in mashed potatoes with various toppings, beating the likes of Bonoo Indian Tapas in London and the Greek Taverna on Bold Street, Liverpool.

The eating establishment serves up to 9 different types of mashed potato, such as chilli, smoked bacon, spring onion and black pudding mash.

Glasgow-based, The Gannet was ranked 7th on Tripadvisor’s Top 10 Fine Dining Restaurants in the UK.

The Gannet is described as a “stripped-back urban bar” and was named after the Gannets that inhabit the Outer Hebrides in northwestern Scotland.

The restaurant serves seasonal foods and relies on its network of small artisan producers and foragers to create a “distinctly modern Scottish fine dining experience.”

They also make use of “the very best local produce from Edinburgh, Fife and beyond.”
