Scottish pupils receive exam results as National 5 passes reach record levels

• Scottish pupils received their exam results on Tuesday, with the number of passes at National 5 reaching record levels.
• Almost 270,000 students received a passing grade at National 5, an increase from around 262,000 last year.
• Pass rates for National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher all saw an increase, reaching 79.2 per cent, 76.7 per cent, and 77.6 per cent respectively.
• The proportion of pupils who achieved an A rose for National 5 and Higher, while the rate for Advanced Higher fell.
• Scotland’s education secretary, Mairi McAllan, described the results as "incredibly positive", adding: “It is particularly pleasing to see another narrowing in the attainment gap between the most and least deprived areas.”
