Scottish pubs unveil 'pods', high-tech loos and advance booking for when they reopen

Scottish bars and restaurants have given customers a glimpse of what they will look like when lockdown measures ease.

Pubs will be allowed to open beer gardens and outdoor areas in phase two, which could be as early as this week.

Nicola Sturgeon is set make the next announcement on June 18 - and it is hoped she will give the hospitality industry the green light to reopen.

Scottish bars, hotels and pubs have been working hard to revamp beer gardens to accommodate social distancing as they anticipate restrictions easing.

One Glasgow bar has created 21 unique dining and drinking 'pods' in a range of sizes to for groups divided by screens.

Ardnamurchan on Hope Street also has high-tech toilets, including infrared taps and flushes and hand sanitisers, with the venue closing once a week for a deep clean, Glasgow Live reports.

The bar and restaurant will have a one-way system and perspex screens installed at the bar will divide punters from bartenders.

Neil and Julie Douglas, who run the business, removed around a third of seating to create more space to allow customers to maintain a two-metre distance.

Meanwhile, a handful of pubs have announced they will have advanced booking systems for their outdoor spaces to stop lengthy queues and to avoid disappointment.

Among those implementing a table booking service are Glasgow's West Brewery, The Locale, Cottiers and Edinburgh's CC's, with more expected to follow suit.

Last week, an Aberdeen hotel unveiled special 'igloos' designed to keep customers safe while dining outdoors.

The 20-metre open-sided marquee and transparent igloos form part of the plan for the The Chester Hotel in the west end of the city.

These vented ‘igloos', which give a 360 degree view, will be constructed at the front of the hotel.

Customers will be able to pre-book these interesting conservatory-style structures for small groups of up to eight to meet and dine in.
