Scottish Premiership poised for Qatar World Cup shutdown

Next season's Scottish Premiership campaign looks set to shut down for a month between November and December next year due to the unseasonal 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The festival of football is traditionally a summer tournament, but the high humidity and searing temperatures in the Middle East at that time have year forced organisers to play the competition in the winter on health grounds.

And that is set to cause havoc for the domestic calendars across the globe, with leagues shutting down mid-season.

Their report adds that the Premiership will hold its final round of fixtures for the 2022/23 season on the weekend of May 27/28, with the Premiership play-off final and Scottish Cup final set for June.

The League Cup final would be played in February, with the last four of the tournament played in the January,

Football is expected to play on in the lower leagues across the country during the World Cup, which will run from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
