Scottish Power vows to fix land damaged during repairs in Glenburn estate

Scottish Power has reassured angry Paisley residents that repairs will be carried out to fix land destroyed during emergency works.

The energy giant said the churned up grass in Braeview Avenue will be “fully restored” next year once weather conditions improve.

Raging residents had contacted Paisley Southwest councillor Stephen Burns to raise concerns about the state the land in the Glenburn estate had been left in by contractors.

Scottish Power had been carrying out emergency work to an underground cable and due to the limited access they had to move heavy equipment across the grass.

Councillor Burns said residents in the quiet cul-de-sac were left unimpressed by the actions of Scottish Power.

He told the Express: “A number of people got in touch with me to say they weren’t happy with how Scottish Power had left the area looking.

“It doesn’t look great and the equipment did make a mess of the grass, and people were concerned about it getting worse due to the weather in the winter.”

He added: “It seems Scottish Power had limited options when carrying out the necessary repairs and I am glad to hear they are committed to fixing the damage their machinery caused after the New Year.

“I will be sure to get in touch with them again regarding this in the coming weeks.”

Scottish Power thanked residents in the area for their understanding and said work would start when weather and ground conditions improve.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “We recently carried out emergency works to repair an underground network cable fault in the Glenburn area, which had the potential to affect power supplies to the local community.

“Due to the location of the fault and the limited access available, unfortunately our contractor did have to move heavy equipment across the grassed area around Braeview Drive/Avenue.

“To remedy this, we’ve carried out some initial works. We can assure residents that the grounds will be fully restored in the early part of next year when the ground conditions are more suitable.

In the meantime, we will continue to monitor conditions and undertake further intermediary works as appropriate. We thank local people for their understanding.”
